So, Melania Trump’s solo Africa tour has commenced and she has started by visiting Ghana. After Ghana, she will visit three more African countries; Kenya, Malawi and Egypt.
She first visited a hospital in Accra, alongside Ghana’s first lady Rebecca Akufo-Addo. She is promoting her “Be Best” initiative, aimed at advancing health and education.
Her visit matters because you know what her husband thinks of Africa – yes, that’s it, SHITHOLE countries! So yeah, will she mend Trump’s insane, divisive effect towards Africa? We don’t know.
See, Melania isn’t commanding enough inspiration and that oozing that aura of confidence. It’s just muted. Just hushed.
If you remember the time when Obama went there in 2009, that even a hall was named after him. There was so much buzz around that. Not this time with Melania Trump.
Melania Trump visited a former slave trade fort, and well, she seemed touched by that.
Trump said she “will never forget” her visit, calling it “very emotional” and “really something that people should see and experience”. She added that “what happened so many years ago is really a tragedy”.
The Slave Trade was such a dark epoch in Africa’s history that saw millions of black Africans being stripped of their humanity and dignity, lose lives and living in squalid conditions. People were kept naked and chained in the 17th Century Cape Coast Castle, waiting to be shipped as slaves.
There is no much buzz around Melania’s Trump’s visit. “The interest is very, very muted and subdued. There are a lot of people [in Ghana] who are extremely indifferent about this visit,” political commentator Etse Sikanku told AFP.
Let’s see how the rest of her Africa tour will be like.
