#IAmCreativeForAfrica: Painting the colors of Africa through fashion

#IAmCreativeForAfrica Donovan Faranando (DF) moved to Zambia where he had a chance to chat with Byenda Nkwanda (BN) a young fashion designer and entrepreneur setting a pace in the business industry.Below is how the chat went down.

DF: Tell us your name and what you do?
BN: I’m Byenda Nkwanda and I am a fashion designer, creative director, stylist, image consultant.Basically I’m just on all fronts of fashion.

DF: Why do you do what you do?
BN: I found myself in the fashion industry strictly out of love and passion for it, it’s my mode of expressing every fire that is within me,however I’m on the path of entrepreneurship because I’m trying to push a whole movement and culture of young and ambitious women who can change the game and our economies in Africa.

DF: Tell us more about Golden Traib?
BN: Golden Traib is my fashion brand, that is the head of everything I do concerning fashion. It is the business. The term “Golden Tribe” is a representative of my generation, at least the game changing part of it.The young people in my era are the embodiment of dreams, for that reason I consider us to be Golden and the Tribe which is purposely spelt differently just for individuality.

DF: As a young entrepreneur in the fashion business, what are some of the challenges you face?
BN: The main struggle is always getting people to take fashion as a serious business especially being a young person.I’m only 21 so I think I’m holding my ground in my own right.

DF: What does it mean to you to be a creative in Africa?
BN: It means I have a magnificent chance to paint Africa in a unique way that shows the best of my ability and every problem we have is a opportunity to create solutions.

DF: If there is one thing you can change towards the fashion industry what will it be?
BN: I will change African people’s views towards everything. We are such a cool people than needs no trends to make us who we are.We have minds filled with original ideas, culture full of diversity and brightness. No one is better than us!

DF: One last word to your fellow Africans who want to follow into your steps?
BN: Keep fighting for what you believe in and take yourself and whatever you do seriously!
