She is a woman whose music I’ve found very uplifting. She sings because she has a pure talent to sing, and to convey meaningful messages through her deep lyrics.
Amanda Black, real name Amanda Benedicta Antoni, is a South African singer-songwriter and a recording artist. She rose to fame through her hit single “Amazulu” which was also followed by her debut album Amazulu. Her debut album went platinum after three weeks only. At present, she is signed to Ambitiouz Entertainment. She started singing at a young age in church and at school until she turned 12 when she began competing in talent hunts which exposed her to stage performance.
She attended t Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University where she studied Music Education. Amanda Black took part in three seasons of Idols SA, but gained more popularity in Season 11 of the show, when she made it to the top seven. In order to create opportunities for her promising career, she moved to Johannesburg in January 2016. That’s when she was signed by Ambitiouz Entertainment.
Amanda sings both in Xhosa and English and she describes her genre of music as Afro-soul with a fusion of hip-hop and a bit of soul and rhythm and blues. She is so proud of her roots that she adorns her face with stipples of Xhosa face paint.
Her hit single “Amazulu” received massive airplay and it was the firm foundation on which her album, which was later on released with the same title, got a lot of success and was certified platinum by the Recording Industry of South Africa. Her soulful songs always have some sort of magic on people’s hearts and minds.
